We’re proud to say we’ve collaborated with some of the top industry players to influence and redeem entertainment for Jesus. This is the kind of Meyers world where allowing three twenty-something male strangers to move in while you have two girls under 11 years old in the house makes perfect sense. It’s also a world where, when Reese makes breakfast for everyone, there are eggs and pancakes and muffins andbagelsand a tray full of enough fruit to bankrupt a farmers market. "Home Again" feels like comfort food, specifically low fat vanilla bean ice cream from Whole Foods. What a pleasure to see a film that's lighthearted and free from the raunch that dominates most chick flicks nowadays. Research shows a connection between kids' healthy self-esteem and positive portrayals in media.

Witherspoon is the only actress who seems to have fun in the movie and to be honest leads this fiasco to something purely mediocre. The film is so unmoored from reality that even though it's set in diverse, modern-day Los Angeles, it's actually a surprise when a nonwhite face shows up on the screen. The acting is done a disservice by the script and direction's lack of depth. Supposedly charming "boy" Harry essentially plays the same smirk through the whole film instead of finding levels and tactics in his scenes -- that's on Meyers-Shyer.

The May-December romancing between Alice and Harry has all the pop of an old “Love, American Style” rerun. Narrative formulas can be a source of pleasure, but part of what makes Home Again such a snooze is that very little feels at stake. But she’s financially comfortable, lives in a lovely rent-free home with her two adorable kids and has three handsome young men doting on her. (World’s smallest violin, anyone?) Harry, Teddy and George, meanwhile, are so innocuous to begin with that there’s no evolution in their relationship with Alice. But based on the carefree existence of all of the characters, there are no serious signs of anxiety.
Despite this, there's not a mean bone in Home Again's body. It's boring but charming in much the same way the interior of a Pier 1 is. Eau de Nancy Meyers, the queen of upper-class affairs of the heart amid decadent décor porn, is all over this. But she is actually on the sidelines as one of the producers.

A Christmas movie does not necessarily need to come out during the holiday season, though it does communicate that Iron Man 3 is a Marvel movie first with Christmas primarily used as a backdrop. The ending does take place during December, with MJ's shop decked out in Christmas and Hanukkah decor. It's not just the decorations though that make it feel like a Christmas film, as there are similarities between Peter's story and the main plot in It's a Wonderful Life.
Home Again is probably one of most funniest movies I've ever seen. Home Again is the modern day rom-com with a role switch . If you love Reese Witherspoon's mmovies this has to be one of Reese's best performances yet. What 40-year-old woman, with two kids, who’s feeling un’erappreciated an’ who’s had prolly a wee bit too much to drink at her foortieth birthday party wouldn’t leap at the chance ta be in my shoes right now … ? A film that's not romantic enough for you to care, and not funny enough to make you laugh, "Home Again" barely qualifies as a rom-com.
'Onibaba' Remains One Of The Most Horrifying Films Of The 1960s
Harry goes without his shirt on at least four or five occasions. Another time, he’s naked in bed but wrapped strategically in a sheet. Harry and Teddy both strip to their underwear and jump into the ocean for a swim. Harry is something of a player and easily slips into his seductive mode with a couple of different women. Alice makes several reckless choices that some of her friends see as “empowering.” But gradually, she realizes she needs to make decisions with her daughters in mind.
Even with a script that was less than spectacular, the film could have succeeded in capturing the charm of movies from another era, setting viewers in a comfortable space with a pretty kitchen and cozy story. But in 2017, the glaring homogeneity of Home Again feels tone deaf in a way that supersedes any nostalgic charm. Within this genre, though, maybe we should take a minute to think about our expectations and whether it’s reasonable to calibrate them. Truth be told, the mechanics, direction, and production of Home Again are all perfectly fine.
It came under particular fire from lesbian activists, who felt it was far too stereotypical in its depictions. Many films over the decades have been controversial for their depictions of various things. Excessive violence, sexual themes, and use of questionable language in films have been magnets for public debate around their suitability to be shown and whether or not they degrade society through their being shown. This list is a journey back in time and an examination of some films from yesterday that fit that description. However, to be fair, nothing in the movie is offensively terrible.

During the break, when 80% of the people had already left the theater, people started clapping their hands out of misery...wondering why they were there. The best performance of the three young men taken in goes to Jon Rudnitsky, his character is the most interestingly written of the three and he is the most charismatic and easy to like of the three. 'Home Again' is nicely made with a peppy score, while also boasting a good-natured sweet tone, some funny, cheerful moments and a few snappy lines. Verified reviews are considered more trustworthy by fellow moviegoers.
The characters in Home Again are easy going, fun, kind and there are a few lessons learned along the way - Alice gets her priorities sorted, the filmmaker trio mature as friends. My only criticism is that the story could have tied in the importance/presence of the filmmaker father more. We are introduced to him in the beginning and there are a few nods to him along the way, but it would have been more interesting to learn how his influence shaped his daughter's life, the decisions she made. My only critique here, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying this movie.
Yes, Alice is a strong, self-sufficient woman…but that’s less of a premise than a character description and the narrative that tries to emerge is stillborn. Home Again feels like a diluted attempt to echo one of Meyers’ films and the distributor, aware of this, is marketing it as such. Meanwhile, three twentysomething filmmakers – director Harry , actor Teddy , and writer George – arrive in L.A.
And who in their right mind, and with two young daughters, would invite three total strangers to move in – especially the night after - even if one of them looks to be yanked right out of an Abercrombie ad? There is also Alice's interaction with her first client . Despite despicable treatment from the rich lady, Alice doesn't stand her ground until yet another drunken bout of liquid courage occurs. The two daughters are smart and cute, but there is an obvious shortage of daily parenting happening here – the daughters seem to show up only when a dose of precociousness is required. The scenes with Alice and her estranged husband are appropriately awkward, but the communication seems hokey at least until we witness true hokeyness in the cartoonish exchanges between the four gentlemen. In fact, all male characters are written as cartoons, which we might view as "getting even" with the many times female characters were poorly written; however, since the female lead here is just as unreal, that theory doesn't hold.
